Linksys by Cisco WRT110 router

BANGALORE, INDIA: Cisco announced the availability of Linksys by Cisco WRT110 RangePlus wireless router, an entry level wireless-N router for an enhanced and extended wireless experience.

The three-in-one device combines functionalities of a wireless access point, built in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch and router to enable the freedom of sharing high-speed cable or DSL Internet access anywhere at home, all through a single network.

The WRT110 is the newest addition to the Linksys by Cisco Wireless-N family and it features the same sleek industrial design as sported by the recent ultra rangeplus family of wireless-N routers (WRT160N and WRT310N). The new sleek design features an internal antenna technology which integrates the antenna into the router body without compromising signal coverage.

Besides the new design, the WRT110 ships with the Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA) application, which provides consumers with a flash video-based guided installation for PC and Mac users. LELA uses simplified terminology that does not require knowledge of networking jargon, and helps make setting up a wireless network easier than ever before. This simple-to-use software package is designed to take away the technical hassle setting up wireless network and helps to keeps the network highly secure and connected.

With the Linksys by Cisco WRT110, home users can maximise Internet capabilities at an extended compound at home, allowing a wider wireless freedom than the Wireless-G connection.

The WRT110 is available at a manufacturer's sales recommended price of Rs.4725.

The WRT110 comes with Linksys' new wireless enhancing technology called RangePlus, which is the successor of the company's SpeedBooster. (Other vendors have similar technology--Netgear with RangeMax and D-Link with SpeedBooster.) The main difference is that RangeMax and SpeedBooster work only with proprietary adapters to offer potential gain in throughput and range, while RangePlus works with any 802.11n-compatible wireless adapter. This means that any PC or laptop with an 802.11n wireless adapter will enjoy near 802.11n throughput speed with the WRT110--you won't need to purchase a separate adapter from Linksys.

The WRT110 uses similar Web interface to previous models, but we noticed improved responsiveness and a few new features including an Application and Gaming tab that allows for setting up ports to support special applications and network services. The WRT110 also supports all available wireless encryption from WEP to WPA and WPA2, as well as Remote Authentication Dial In User Service. As with most other routers from Linksys, the WRT110 supports VPN pass-through and access restriction. It is also the first budget router from Linksys that offers Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
